Job Description – Facility Safety and Engineering Support

Location - NASA Langley Research center in Hampton, Virginia.

Safety & Quality Assurance Alliance, Inc. has an opening for a safety engineer at NASA Langley Research center in Hampton, Virginia.

Candidate will provide Facility Safety Support and Systems Engineering Support services to assist NASA LaRC’s Center Operations Directorate in successfully and safely performing its mission of

• Operating the Center’s utilities
• Maintaining the Center’s infrastructure
• Designing, constructing, modifying, and commissioning facilities and research equipment

Position Responsibilities include:
• Review of facility engineering designs and participation in design review panels to
• Identify and assess performance, cost, schedule, and safety risks
• Suggest or recommend actions to eliminate or mitigate identified risks
• Apply systems engineering principles and practices to ensure the work is fully integrated with existing facilities, equipment, and utilities and safety is designed into the project.
• Participate in project coordination meetings
• Assist management in proactively identifying and addressing mission, performance, and safety/health risks
• Participate in Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP)/Business Continuity Planning exercises/drills
• Monitor effectiveness of maintenance of safety critical items
• Develop and track organizational safety/health metrics
• Evaluate subcontractor safety performance
• Provide technical expertise on close call/mishap investigations and audit findings.
• Develop corrective action plans and work to implement corrective actions.

Skills/Qualifications
- >10 years of safety/engineering experience
- BS in science/engineering discipline with master’s degree and or professional certification such as CIH/CSP/PE
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Past experience with large/complex worksites
